The Loving Hand provides access to health care

The Loving Hand provides access to health care

The Loving Hand Organisation in its work to contribute towards zero vertical HIV infections in Zimbabwe is providing 2 integrated mobile clinics. This month of September 2013, the areas that will benefit from the initiative are on the 18th , Mazwi , St Peters, Methodist and Robert Sinyoka communities which are peri-urban villages west of Bulawayo and 19th  Nketa, Mganwini and Mbundana high density suburbs in Bulawayo.  Millions of people die every year from curable diseases because they do not have access to health services within their reach. As such mobile clinics have been seen as an exercise that could help assist in the treatment of such people regardless of how far they are, or who they are.
The targeted areas are situated far away from health care and services providers hence this initiative by the Loving Hand.  For most such areas in Zimbabwe, the mobile clinics are the main health care and services provider hence an integrated approach as planned by Loving Hand is a holistic approach that is way more than handy as it provides more than a single service to these communities that are deeply in need of relevant health services inclusive of the HIV/AIDS components services such as counseling and testing, palliative care and PMTCT as well as family planning, childhood immunization, basic curative medicines and health education. This mission, integrated as it is, is made a success through the availability and passion of partners that include the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council, World Vision, PSI, Million Memory Project, Ministry of Women Affairs Gender and Development, and the City Council with its partners provide family planning/reproductive health, basic curatives, immunization as well as psychosocial support to the remote communities.

Loving hand has since trained a number of Community health care workers and facilitators and has worked through and with churches and other partners some listed to try and combat the HIV/AIDS Pandemic and its effects and impacts in and around Bulawayo Province. The work also includes training of trainers and provision of health education to  men, women, boys and girls of child bearing age.
