Scores take part in Sponsored Walk
More than 100 school children together with members of the civil society participated in a Bulawayo Junior Council (BJC) Sponsored Walk
supported by NANGO and UNICEF on Saturday 07, September 2013.
Participants prepare to embark on the 52 km walk. |
The sponsored walk which
stretched from Ascot Business Centre to Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage and back (a
total distance of about 52 kilometres) was a BJC initiative to fundraise for Queen Elizabeth Children's Home.
NANGO supported the initiative
because it is motivated by Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the
Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which compels UN member states to afford children
the right to express themselves freely.

NANGO also believes in supporting child-led
initiatives such as junior councils and the Junior Parliament as these
platforms are instrumental in producing future leaders who will be
sensitive to the plight and needs of children.
